Complex mineral fertilizers have gained attention in Brazil in early 2025, often priced lower than low-content SSP. Limited availability of high-PO fertilizers led importers to explore alternatives for the 2025-26 soybean season, including mineral complexes, NP, and NPS blends like 08-40 and 08-40+5S.

To help farmers make informed choices and ensure fair competition with simple fertilizers, Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) now requires packaging to indicate the water solubility of PO. Effective September 11, the rule addresses previous gaps, when sellers were not obliged to report nutrient release rates. “Farmers will now have the same assurance of phosphate availability as with simple fertilizers,” said Mapa adviser Jose Carlos Polidoro.

Industry sources note that producers have a 45-day window to update packaging, as products already on the market do not yet comply with the new standard.
