The Ardmore phosphate mine in northwest Queensland has resumed operations after PRL Group completed its takeover of Centrex and subsidiary Agriflex. With a capacity of 635,000 t/yr, the mine is expected to begin shipments before the end of 2025, according to a 4 September announcement.

The restart comes amid rising global demand for phosphate and tighter supply from key regions. Ardmore could offer Asia-Pacific importers an additional source of phosphate rock, helping to diversify sourcing beyond North Africa and the Middle East.

Future outcomes will largely depend on the efficiency and cost of railway operations between the mine and nearby port. Smooth and cost-effective transport will be crucial in determining how effectively the mine’s production can reach regional markets, and in shaping its impact on global phosphate supply and fertilizer market stability in the years ahead.
